Accessing a website on a smartphone may seem complicated if you are not very familiar with technology, but with a few simple steps it can be very easy! This detailed guide will take you step by step through opening a website on iPhone and Android, even if it is your first time trying. By following the instructions and with the help of some explanatory images, in a few minutes you will be able to browse the Internet independently.
đź”— Do you like Techelopment? Check out the site for all the details!
Step 1: Check your Internet connection
1.1 Look at the top of your screen
Look for the Wi-Fi icon 🛜 (it looks like waves ) or the Mobile Data icon that says 4G, 5G, or LTE. If one of these symbols is present, you are connected to the Internet.
Step 2: Find the Browser App
A browser is the name of the application that allows you to surf the Internet. There is no proper word in Italian but if we had to define one, it would be: the navigator (of websites).
2.1 Locate the browser icon
- On iPhone: Look for an icon with a small blue and red compass. It is called Safari.
- On Android: Look for an icon called Chrome that has a circle with the colors red, green, yellow and blue.
- If you don't see Safari or Chrome, perform a search as shown in the next step (2.2).
2.2 Tap the icon once
Press the browser icon to open it. This will take you to the browser screen where you can search for a site.
- Safari
- Android
Step 3: Type the Website Address
3.1 Find the address bar
Once your browser is open, look for a long white (or black) bar at the top (or bottom on some iPhones) where you can type words. This is the address bar.
3.2 Tap the address bar
Tap once on the white (or black) bar. The keyboard will appear on your phone screen.
3.3 Write the website address
Use the keyboard to write the name of the site. For example, to access the Techelopment site, write www.techelopment.it. You can also write just techelopment.it (these days, almost all sites no longer need to write "www").
After writing, press the "Go" or "Enter" key on the keyboard.
Congratulations!
You have accessed your first website on a smartphone 🎉
If something goes wrong…
- If the site “won’t load” or “open”: Check that Wi-Fi or Mobile Data is turned on (see Step 1).
- Typing error: Check that the address is spelled correctly and without spaces.
