My Hacktoberfest Journey: Building App Templates with Webcrums AI Tool

Akash Babu Kushwah - Oct 30 - - Dev Community

This month, I had an incredible learning experience participating in Hacktoberfest. Through it, I not only sharpened my skills in Git and GitHub but also had the chance to create and contribute templates for various applications using Webcrums' front-end AI tool. Here’s a look at my journey and what I made!

Embracing Open Source with Hacktoberfest:
Hacktoberfest is a month-long event where developers worldwide make meaningful contributions to open-source projects. For me, it was a great way to level up my GitHub skills, collaborate with a community, and work on projects that would benefit others.

Building Templates with Webcrums AI Tool:
Using the Webcrums front-end AI tool, I created several templates designed to streamline common app features. Here’s a breakdown of each template:

  1. Movie App Template: This template includes a layout for listing movies, sorted by popularity, and a feature for users to view trailers. It’s designed to make browsing and managing movie data intuitive.

  2. Recipe App Template: With sections for ingredients, steps, and nutritional info, this template is ideal for showcasing recipe collections in a user-friendly, visually appealing way.

  3. E-Shop Template: This template incorporates key elements like product listing, category filtering, and a shopping cart preview—perfect for any online retail app.

  4. Social Media Profile Page Template: This template includes essential profile elements such as a profile picture, bio, and activity feed, making it suitable for social networking or portfolio platforms.

Contributing to Webcrums: Raising PRs and Getting Involved
After completing each template, I raised pull requests in the Webcrums community GitHub repository. Here’s how I approached it:

Reviewing Contribution Guidelines: I ensured my code followed the project’s style guide and was well-documented for easy review.
Collaboration and Feedback: The feedback from the Webcrums team helped me improve my code quality and gain new insights into front-end design principles.
Building Confidence: Contributing to a real-world project and seeing my work merged boosted my confidence and motivation.

Key Takeaways from Hacktoberfest:
Hands-on Git and GitHub Skills: Working with real pull requests and handling code reviews made me much more confident with version control.
Community Collaboration: The experience of contributing alongside other developers was inspiring and taught me the importance of clear communication.
Expanding My Front-End Skills: Building templates for different types of applications allowed me to think critically about UX/UI design and feature prioritization.

***Final Thoughts*
Hacktoberfest has been an invaluable experience, helping me grow as a developer and connect with the open-source community. From creating these templates with the Webcrums AI tool to seeing my work contribute to the community, it’s been an amazing journey!
