How Is Artificial Intelligence Helping Modern Society? A Conversation With Mohammad Alothman

Henry Maxwell - Nov 6 - - Dev Community

Artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the way we live and work and how we experience our world. Applications span the gamut from optimizing health care to making more streamlined supply chains.

To further our journey on this fascinating subject, we interviewed Mohammad Alothman, an important figure in AI research and development, as well as the leader and founder of AI Tech Solutions. Having years of experience in the tech industry and a practice of ethical AI, he is well aware of all the positive impacts AI is having on modern society.

Mohammad Alothman is one of the best-known AI researchers and consultants who are highly regarded for innovative research contributions in the artificial intelligence field.

Mohammad Alothman has extensive years of experience in AI technologies and is also a vocal proponent of ethically sound AI practices, always ensuring that the deployment of AI is in harmony with societal values.

His work with AI Tech Solutions has been at the forefront of creating AI tools to enhance productivity and aid in decision-making across industry segments.

I think people are really wondering how AI is going to change our daily lives as it continues to advance. What are some of the most significant ways that AI is making a difference in society?

Mohammad Alothman: Absolutely, AI is changing many industries, and as far as I am concerned, the most significant industry undergoing this transformation has to be the health sector. Imagine how AI would help detect diseases in their earliest development phases and, based on that specific case, form appropriate treatment plans accordingly. Even better, it was almost impossible to discover cancer before it was harmful. But through AI in medical history, it analyses patterns of data that make doctors provide more accurate and faster diagnoses for the patients.

So basically here, we are discussing how AI saves lives regarding that. What do you think about the scope of reach outside of health care?

Mohammad Alothman: It can revolutionize the way that health care functions, in how transportation or education takes place, even the way toward conserving the environment. It has already become a car engine that may transform into the day when a vehicle can make traffic less deadly. To think of AI in learning, this tailors the student's learning experience to fit the way in which an individual student learns at whatever speed he or she may be learning. This may give rise to gargantuan improvements on how much will be learned.

AI in transportation and education - it sounds like it can affect nearly everything about our lives! Is there some challenge or concern to go along with the growing popularity of AI in society?

Mohammad Alothman: There are challenges, and the biggest challenge that has surfaced recently is data privacy. Since AI needs data to run its machine learning processes, there must be safe data management in place. But with this, there is also the risk of job displacement in some areas as automation progresses. Here, however, the concern is not the replacement of jobs but the shifting of employees into roles that cannot be replaced by humans - for example, creative and analytical work. AI could actually become an assistant for supporting the workforce if managed well.

So, AI is almost a colleague rather than being a threat in the labor market. Talking of AI as an instrument, how does it help alleviate environmental problems?

Mohammad Alothman: For example, AI is used to monitor climate change by analyzing enormous environmental data as references and guidelines. Prevention of natural disasters, optimization in the utilization of energy, and management of waste will become much smoother with artificial intelligence. In that way, AI provides the needed vision for taking proper and in-time action with respect to understanding environmental patterns.

Great. I'd like to drill down a little more about exactly how someone might find a reason to apply AI in his or her life.

Mohammad Alothman: Well asked! People actually use AI daily as virtual assistants in Siri or Alexa. AI drives Netflix recommendation systems and recommendation systems on social media sites. And, of course, thermostats that can understand your preferences and learn - all these fall into the category of AI.

AI seems integrated into a lot of life. What do you think the potential is for AI in society?

Mohammad Alothman: Responsible and ethical AI is the future. Designed and used against clear ethical guidelines, AI could be a very potent tool to solve most big challenges confronting humanity. A world would be a much brighter one in which AI had led people to better health in all parts of the globe; improved efficiency in our cities; and mitigated, or even reversed, the effects of climate change. The future is endless with AI and transparency and accountability in design.
