An Assessment of Core Values in Action at Company

Jacky - Aug 19 '23 - - Dev Community

Recently I had an interview at a company, and here is Core Value Assessment that wrote before interview.

Teamwork

As a team member, I am the person in charge of the main task when developing a certain feature along with other members who are programmers, QC, BA. Before the release date 2 days ago, we have a meeting for members to contribute on the risks that may occur when the feature is on the production environment, I would like to accept those comments and summarize, put it together, come up with contingency plans, and execute. After the feature went into production environment, there were minor last minute feature changes and unexpected challenges. The team remains flexible and adapts to changing circumstances by preparing ahead of time, adhering to deadlines

Passion

As a developer, I have take part in the establishment and development of 2 product projects in startups that I’m founder. I learned how to develop a lean product mindset, incorporating a minimalist personality from myself. It is an easy way to brainstorm MVP products and features to test the market and measure impact with end users.

Willingness to Learn/Teach

we have free time after each successful new feature in production environment. We take time to review our development process, the engineering team will have brainstorming sessions to find new solutions to optimize performance. Usually our products use Java as the main language, combined with Spring Framework. We also saw its limitations, adopting new languages and frameworks like Groovy and Vertx, which increased the team’s development productivity.

Use ChatGPT to pose problems as well as refer to ways to solve problems and common mistakes.

Communication

In the development process, we still encounter conflicts with other members of the team when we present our solutions, opinions about an issue, and new features. During such instances, we provide to back our proposals with concrete evidence, showcasing their merits through specific metrics of performance, speed, and availability, as well as outlining their pros and cons. This approach allows everyone to effectively and helps us find the best solutions to foster collective growth

Creativity

When I first got into the habit of doing things I didn’t like, it was really difficult because I was always distracted. By accident, I found out about meditation through reading a book called Search Insight Yourself (I originally bought it because the design is quite similar to Google, I also like the way Google works). I learned scientifically about meditation with the brain, got to the root of the problem, learned to practice focusing on the breath and it really helped me calm down and focus more easily on my work. That was about a year ago.

Grateful & Thankful

I feel fortunate and happy to have met good and enthusiastic brothers and teachers who have guided me on my career path and shared experience in the life. I am truly grateful to them for making me who I am today. They are respectable people. They let me know that time is a non-renewable asset and that I need to focus on what really matters.

Positivity

I always make time to train spirit, health and intellect. I have a habit of getting up early (I joined 5 AM club for the long time ago 😀) and writing down what I need to do every morning (Morning Pages). Then I spend time doing physical exercises to recharge for a long day of work. I always try to do things I don’t like and laugh more to train a good spirit. Also don’t forget to help others when possible. A learning goal is indispensable, this time I am learning more about cloud like AWS and improving my weak point — the ability to communicate and share. I love reading books and drinking coffee.

I just want to share more about my experiences during the interview process as well as the life of a Software Engineer like me.
