This year hacktoberfest was a bit of mixed feelings from the registration to the participation. I came across the word hacktoberfest on LinkedIn where people were discussing about it. Then I decided to check it out on its website and I registered for it.
I registered as early as soon and overtime I couldn't do anything. I checked out the discord channel for the hacktoberfest to search for open source projects but the tech stacks used in the projects was not the same as the one I have.
At a point, I could not pick a project to work on and this made me sad. I checked out different posts on Linkedin tagging hacktoberfest to gain insights on how people get projects to work.
I stumbled upon Tobisolutions and Emmanuel event on Linkedin where he talked about how to contribute to open source projects. Thanks to him, I began to pick interest on working on different projects and how I can add values to the project.
Participations
I majorly worked on documentations and later codebase. Along the line, I learnt about how to create issues with different labels depending on what changes I want to make.
I made better commit messages and descriptions that will assist my fellow developers on what changes I made on the projects. Following 2024, I hope to contribute more in open source projects that will make a better developer.
Right now, I have butterflies in my stomach having my 4 PRs merged.
Congratulations to all the contributors and maintainers.
