Ruto's Last Card of Goons

JOHN MWACHARO - Jul 4 - - Dev Community

On Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, protests erupted across Kenya, with reports of property destruction and looting in several counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu. The protests, organized by the GENZ, aimed to address corruption, incompetence, and unfulfilled promises by the ruling government. The demonstrations were peaceful, but the government's response involved excessive use of force, resulting in several deaths.

The ruling government had three cards left: one, to call for negotiations; two, to continue with police brutality; and three, to hire goons to demolish property and injure, and even kill, people. The government called for negotiations with GENZ, but GENZ declined, citing the ruling party's dishonesty in negotiations as a common tactic.

As the saying goes, "Dawa ya moto ni moto" ("The remedy for fire is fire"). The ruling government hired goons through proxy means to counter peaceful demonstrators.

What next for GENZ?
