There is the commands that I like to backup my data.

To copy and update all data.

rsync -hvrPt /media/source/ /media/target

Delete the files align the files after sync.
rsync -a --delete /media/source/ /media/target/

or Combine the command to make a mirror

rsync -hvrPt /media/source/ /media/target

If you use to send over ssh remote, use the option --no-i-r improve the remote performance,

rsync -hvrPWt --no-i-r /media/source /targert
