Background Optic neuritis (ON) is a cardinal manifestation of multiple sclerosis (MS), aquaporin-4 (AQP4)-IgG-, and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG)-IgG-associated disease. However, the prevalence of AQP4-IgG seropositivity and MOG-IgG seropositivity in isolated ON is unclear, and studies comparing visual outcomes and optical coherence tomography (OCT)-derived structural retinal measures between MS-ON, AQP4-ON, and MOG-ON eyes are limited by small sample sizes. Objectives (1) To assess the prevalence of AQP4-IgG and MOG-IgG seropositivity among patients presenting with isolated ON; (2) to compare visual outcomes and OCT measures between AQP4-ON, MOG-ON, and MS-ON eyes. Methods In this systematic review and meta-analysis, a total of 65 eligible studies were identified by PubMed search. Statistical analyses were performed with random effects models. Results In adults with isolated ON, AQP4-IgG seroprevalence was 4% in non-Asian and 27% in Asian populations, whereas MOG-IgG seroprevalence was 8 and 20%,nt diagnostic considerations in adults presenting with isolated ON, especially in Asian populations. Furthermore, MOG-IgG seroprevalence is especially high in pediatric isolated ON, in both non-Asian and Asian populations. Despite a similar severity of GCIPL and pRNFL thinning in AQP4-ON and MOG-ON, AQP4-ON is associated with markedly worse visual outcomes.Cardiac dysautonomia is a potentially life-threatening complication of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Proper and prompt recognition of patients at risk and subsequent intensive care unit (ICU) monitoring are mandatory to prevent fatal outcome. Eyeball pressure testing (EP) has been suggested as an easy applicable bedside test for vagal overreactivity in GBS and thus identifying patients at risk. Yet, there is only sparse follow-up data concerning the course of EP findings in GBS. We report a 25 years-old male patient with GBS who underwent consecutive EP (n = 11) during his ICU stay over a period of 11 weeks. The series of tests performed in this patient (and corresponding clinical events) show that EP data might represent an approximation of vagal dysfunction and vagal recovery in GBS. Interestingly, we observed a much longer duration of pathological EP compared to a previous report. The tenacious cardiac dysautonomia in this patient necessitated long-term application of a transvenous temporary pacemaker.For people with disordered consciousness (DoC) after traumatic brain injury (TBI), relationships between treatment-induced changes in neural connectivity and neurobehavioral recovery have not been explored. To begin building a body of evidence regarding the unique contributions of treatments to changes in neural network connectivity relative to neurobehavioral recovery, we conducted a pilot study to identify relationships meriting additional examination in future research. To address this objective, we examined previously unpublished neural connectivity data derived from a randomized clinical trial (RCT). We leveraged these data because treatment efficacy, in the RCT, was based on a comparison of a placebo control with a specific intervention, the familiar auditory sensory training (FAST) intervention, consisting of autobiographical auditory-linguistic stimuli. We selected a subgroup of RCT participants with high-quality imaging data (FAST n = 4 and placebo n = 4) to examine treatment-related changes in brainctural connectivity. Clinical Trial Registry NCT00557076, The Efficacy of Familiar Voice Stimulation During Coma Recovery (http//www.clinicaltrials.gov).Objective To estimate current prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) in Greece using administrative data from the nationwide medicine prescription database. Methods Prescription records of a 24-month period (June 2017-May 2019) were analyzed in order to identify cases of MS. Sex, age, and place of residence were recorded for each identified case. Prevalence of MS was calculated based on the updated records of the Greek population according to Hellenic Statistical Authority. Results The 2-year cumulative period prevalence of MS was estimated to 197.8 per 100,000 (95% CI 197.6-198.0). In total, 21,218 patients (65.8% female) were identified. During this period, the prevalence of MS was 138.7 per 100,000 (95% CI 138.4-139.0) in men and 253.6 per 100,000 (95% CI 253.3-254.1) in women. Prevalence was higher in the 45-49 age group in both sexes. Analysis of the place of residence revealed higher prevalence in the Attica region and Western Greece while lower prevalence was observed in Northern Greece. No north-south latitude gradient was detected. Point prevalence on 1 January 2019 was calculated to 188.9 per 100,000 (95% CI 188.7-189.1). Regarding treatment, 73.1% of the identified cases received at least once a Disease Modifying Drug. Conclusions According to this national-level study conducted in Greece, estimated prevalence of MS was found to be similar to those of other European countries. Heterogeneity of MS prevalence across the country was observed and needs further investigation.Following a neo-Durkheimian perspective, major sporting events such as the World Cup or the America's Cup differ from other collective rituals because they promote interest throughout the nation due to their massiveness and international character. In order to increase the scientific knowledge related to these type of rituals, the aim of this study was to observe the effects that the Chilean victory in the 2016 Copa América Centenario had on social variables such as trust, self-transcendent aspirations, and evaluated subjective well-being (SWB) of both fans and non-fans. In addition, two longitudinal structural equation models (SEMs) were performed to estimate the effect of identity with the national team before the final match on evaluated SWB, trust, and self-transcendent aspirations post-final. A total of 648 Chilean participants (mean age = 38.58; SD = 10.96) answered the questionnaire before the final match. Out of these, 409 completed our measures after the final. The results show that fans presented higher scores in many of the studied variables before and after the final compared to non-fans.check details
