Those who do nothing will automatically be part of the settlement and will not get a payment from this settlement, but will give up the right to sue, continue to sue, or be part of another lawsuit against Facebook related to the legal claims resolved by this settlement.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for September 7, and payments will be made to claimants once the court has approved the settlement, assuming there are no appeals. Although Facebook has implemented changes to its policies regarding user data, Meta did not acknowledge any wrongdoing as part of the settlement. In a statement, Meta spokesperson Dina Luce said that the company pursued a settlement because it was in the best interest of its community and shareholders. Luce also highlighted the company's efforts to improve privacy and implement a comprehensive privacy program over the last three years, with a continued focus on building services that prioritize privacy.
