The most polarizing addition to Windows in recent memory is set to make a triumphant return in a couple of months, following a previous indefinite postponement announced in mid-June.

Microsoft has disclosed, via an update to an earlier blog post, that its innovative “Recall” feature will be available for testing by Windows Insiders this October, as reported by carsnewstoday.com.

“As we previously communicated on June 13, we have refined our release strategy to tap into the valuable insights of our Windows Insider community before making Recall accessible to all Copilot+ PCs,” the updated blog post states. “Security remains our utmost priority, and upon Recall’s availability for Windows Insiders in October, we will publish a detailed blog post.”

Windows Recall: The Countdown Begins

This October, Windows Insiders will gain access to Recall, although the precise date remains unspecified. Recall, announced in May, is an AI feature that captures screenshots of all activities on compatible Windows PCs, creating a searchable database of user actions.

However, Recall was swiftly identified as a significant cybersecurity risk, as it intentionally compiles a comprehensive history of user activity. Microsoft attempted to mitigate concerns by making Recall an opt-in feature, but the controversy had already gained momentum, prompting at least one government agency to investigate Microsoft over Recall.

We will have to await Microsoft’s forthcoming blog post to learn how the company has addressed the security concerns surrounding Recall. Fortunately, the wait will not be protracted.
