Tesla has initiated an urgent recall of over 9,100 Model X vehicles, a move that may not come as a surprise given the company's recent history of massive recalls, including a staggering 1.8 million vehicles just a few weeks ago.

What sets this recall apart, however, is its requirement for a physical visit to a service center, unlike most of Tesla's recalls, which can be resolved with a simple software update.

According to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) (via Reuters), Tesla is recalling 9,136 Model X SUVs due to a critical safety concern involving a trim on the roof that could detach and increase the risk of an accident.

The Model X features a cosmetic applique at the front of the roof, just behind the windshield, known as the front applique, as well as an applique at the center of the roof, between the upper falcon door roof glass, known as the spine applique. Both appliques are secured to the vehicle using urethane. If the applique-to-urethane interface lacks primer, the adhesion may weaken over time, causing the applique to separate from the vehicle, the report explained.

Affected Tesla owners, all of whom own 2016 model year Model X vehicles, will need to visit a Tesla service center, where the roof trim adhesion will be tested and trim pieces reattached to ensure the cars are safe to drive, at no additional cost to the owners.

Notably, this is the second time these Model X vehicles have been recalled for the same issue. The first recall occurred in 2020, but Tesla now acknowledges that the initial fix was insufficient to fully resolve the problem.

According to the company, there have been approximately 170 reports and claims related to this issue. Fortunately, Tesla is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from this issue.
