The AI-driven visual landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. Hot on the heels of Google's underwhelming Pixel Studio generator debut, AI startup Ideogram announced on X (formerly Twitter) the launch of its revamped product, Ideogram 2.0, on Wednesday, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of AI image generation.
Beyond elevating its model's creative capabilities, the company is also introducing an iOS app, an API, and a visual search system, further solidifying its position in the market. This announcement comes amidst a flurry of activity in AI image generation, with the recent launch of Grok-2 and a significant Midjourney update.

Ideogram 2.0 empowers users to generate images in one of five distinct styles: General, Realistic, Design, 3D, and Anime. The General style, exemplified by the horse-sized ducks battling duck-sized horses below, produces a basic illustration based on your prompt, while the Realistic style yields images that closely resemble photographs, complete with accurate details such as the correct number of eyes and fingers, or rather, feathers.
The Design style offers enhanced text rendering and enables users to superimpose an image with specific color schemes and palettes, making it an invaluable tool for rapidly iterating logos and graphics. The 3D style returns a 3D rendered image that, in this duck’s case, somehow appears more lifelike than the Realistic style, while the Anime style does precisely what you would expect it to.
The company has also unveiled its Ideogram Search engine, which will enable users to efficiently search for inspiration amidst Ideogram’s billion-plus public images, an iOS app, as well as the beta release of its API. The API is touted to deliver exceptional image quality at a reduced cost compared to its counterparts, according to the company’s assertion in a subsequent tweet. Ideogram’s pricing model ranges from $0.01 to $0.08 per input, contingent upon the model employed and functionality.
Ideogram offers end-users a range of flexible subscription plans. The free tier is particularly generous, allowing users to generate around 40 images daily without incurring any costs.
For a monthly subscription of $7, the Basic package provides 400 priority generation credits, 100 slow credits per day, and additional benefits such as high-resolution image downloads. The $16/month Plus package grants 1,000 priority credits and unlimited slow credits per month, while the $48/month Pro package increases the allocation to 4,000 fast credits (equivalent to approximately 12,000 images) per month.
